The historic settlements of Dunwich and Amity Point on South and North Stradbroke Islands, located about 30 km southeast of Brisbane are very popular day visitor and holiday destinations for Brisbane`s population and tourists. The two islands are only 13 km by regular ferry services from the seaside suburbs of Redland Bay and Cleveland. South Stradbroke is smaller being only 22 km long and about 2.5 km wide, while North Stradbroke Island is about 38 km long and 11 km wide. The ferries, water taxis, cruise boats and barges from the mainland arrive at Dunwich on the western side of North Stradbroke Island. Historic Dunwich was first established in 1827 as a convict outstation. There is a wide variety of modern places to stay for a beachfront holiday at Dunwich.
