The charming town of Cardwell is located about half-way between Townsville and Cairns. Cardwell is a nature lovers paradise boasting waterfalls, swimming in mountain streams, world heritage rainforests, the Great Barrier reef, wilderness tracks, white water rafting, kayaking, wind surfing, canoeing, crabbing, fishing and prawning. Cardwell has a beautiful long white beach a fantastic pier for fishing and for joining the many charter boats and cruises that depart daily on magical adventures. Cardwell and the nearby village of Port Hinchinbrook are the gateway to the magnificent seclusion of Hinchinbrook Island, which is Australia`s largest Island National Park. Untouched, except for a charming eco lodge at Cape Richards, the island has diverse flora and fauna, magical waling tracks, palm-fringed beaches, crystal clear streams and mangrove waterways. The renowned Thorsborne Trail along the island`s eastern side is a world renowned four to five day bushwalking track. The less energetic can view and explore the island on a day cruise, eco-tour or scenic flight. You can launch your boat at Cardwell into the sheltered waters of the Hinchinbrook Channel and head into the Coral Sea for fishing trips, visiting nearby islands or to explore the Great Barrier Reef via snorkelling or scuba diving. From Cardwell it is only a short drive to Mission Beach and Tully Gorge. Also available in the area are many eco-tours, and extreme adventures, such as sea kayaking, white water rafting and skydiving.
